Hand Finished

We are sometimes asked what we mean by “hand finished”. When making curtains and Roman blinds the widths of main fabric, lining and interlining are machined together. The rest of the process is hand-stitched. This means the interlining is locked to the main fabric by hand-stitching, the edges of the curtains or blinds are turned in and hand-stitched, the hem is turned up and hand-stitched and the lining is locked to the interlining by hand. On curtains pinch pleats are firstly machined to ensure strength and then finished by hand. Gathered headings can be finished using a heading tape, which is machined or hand-gathered, which is an entirely hand sewn process.

There is no doubt that hand-finished work produces a far superior product.

The alternative to hand-finished is machine made when everything is machine-sewn. This a less expensive option as it is less labour intensive, but can only be used for lined only curtains and blinds as interlined curtains and blinds must be hand-finished to ensure stability.

We wish all of our clients a very happy, healthy and prosperous new year. If the doom and gloom merchants in the media are to be believed, 2012 is going be a tough year. So, with this in mind, we are pleased to announce that we are freezing our prices for yet another year so that all of our making up costs for our top quality, hand-made curtains, blinds and soft furnishings remain at the same rates as in January 2010. We have no control over our supplier’s prices who, in turn, are governed by the massive rise in the costs of cotton, worldwide manufacturing and transportation, but we will offer discounts on fabrics wherever possible.

New Fabric Range

We have just taken on the new range of curtain and upholstery fabrics from Colefax and Fowler and Jane Churchill, including the first collection of laser printed linens which appear to give a three-dimensional quality to the print. These new additions to our fabric library join existing designer collections to make it one of the most extensive in the area. We will sell the fabrics to order or to make into hand-finished curtain, blinds and soft furnishings to the highest quality. All created to your exact specifications here in our new workrooms on Dudbridge Hill in Stroud.

Our relocation to our new premises at Dudbridge Hill in Stroud has gone well and we now feel settled.

The workrooms are much larger with the extra space leading to increased efficiency in producing our curtains and blinds. Our clients also benefit from the expanded showroom where they can peruse our extensive library of pattern books in comfort, not to forget the further bonus of parking for up to eight vehicles.
